A Beginner's Guide to Pottery Classes in Rondebosch & Cape Town...
Expect to get wonderfully messy and embrace the learning curve. Your first pottery class will be a hands-on introduction.
Your first pottery class at Lovers Walk Ceramics will include an introduction to wedging techniques, and basic pottery tools. Beginners start with hand-building pottery techniques like pinch pots, coiling and slab work. The experience is relaxed and supportive, everybody is here to learn.
What to Wear and Bring
Clothing: Wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting clay on. Clay washes out, but it can be quite muddy.
Accessories: Leave rings, watches, and bracelets at home, (or stash them in your bag) as clay can get trapped underneath them.
What Happens to Your Pieces?
Drying & Firing: Your pieces must dry completely (sometimes it takes a few weeks in winter) and then go into a kiln to be bisque fired before they are ready to be glazed. Only after both firings will your pieces be ready to take home. Pottery certainly teaches patience.
